IS THIS THE END OF AN URBAN ERA FOR SONY MUSIC??
According to a NY Post article The Sony Urban division is going to be cut just in time for the holidays. The division cut is part of the master plan of Rob Stringer brother of Howard Stringer. Now that Donnie Ienner and Michelle Anthony are no longer a part of Sony, there are obvious rumors about Lisa Ellis and her fate due to the fact that she was one of “Donnie’s People.” I’m sure she has positioned herself well within the building and has taken the necessary steps to secure her position despite her “end being rumored for months. She has received recent press in Black Enterprise and Billboard which have positioned her as a “powerful woman” in the business.
Which other executives survive the cuts in our book: Stephanie Gayle, K.P., Yvette Noel-Schure, Tony Ferguson, James Brown (if Lisa does)……
Sadly, this would spell the end of Sony Urban which was really set the tone for all Black Music Divisions in the 70’s. LeBaron Taylor created a legacy with the development of CBS Records Black Music Marketing Dept which created the mold that continued thru the 80’s-90’s.
